Sephardic Angel Fund: A Statement of Mission
Inspired by the Jewish tradition of charitable giving, the Sephardic Angel Fund guides individuals on the road to business success by offering sound business advice, interest free loans, networking opportunities, career counseling, and other helpful resources for working men and women. It unites volunteers from throughout our community in a spirit of hesed and mutual cooperation to accomplish charity in the purest tradition, with the discretion and sensitivity underscored by our sages and spiritual leaders. By providing a concrete means for people to achieve stable, successful livelihoods, the Sephardic Angel Fund reduces the ravaging burden of debt on our community, saving face for both lenders and borrowers, and promoting shalom and good will in our midst.
Did You Know...? According to the Jewish tradition providing interest-free loans to people in need takes precedence over handing out charity and it is better to participate in a communal fund than to lend privately. The great Hafetz Haim advised that one should contribute fully one third of one’s charitable giving (ma'aser money) directly to a free loan fund. This preserves the self-esteem of borrowers, assures that funding is always accessible, and enables even one small contribution to go a long way and have a share in extending many more loans.
